Sound Advice: When You Can’t Sleep
It seems as if I am always rushing no matter what day of the week it is. What was once a leisurely pastime of soaking in a hot bathtub with candles, a glass of wine and a book seem to be in my far away past. I travel heavily and was looking for advice to help me sleep better when I was on the road and came across this: Take a bath.
I was surprised, and expected the standard dim the lights, don’t drink too much alcohol, sit and relax, etc. So the suggestion to take a warm bath surprised me. It seems that research suggests that taking a hot bath about ninety minutes before you go to bed can help you fall asleep. I wondered about the why…. and it’s a matter of physics: The rise in body temperature, followed by the decline in your core temperature, tells you it’s bedtime.
So if you’re worried and you can’t sleep, maybe a nice little soak is a better solution than counting sheep…
