Product Review: Starbuck’s Vivanno

product-review-starbucks-vivanno

Are you guilty of substituting coffee beverages when you are on the go?  Would you like an option of something quick as well as nutritious?  Instead of ordering a Triple Java Chip Frappuccino (which I love) try the new Starbucks Vivanno Beverages.

There are two flavors:  Chocolate Banana (my favorite) and Orange Mango Banana.  The Chocolate Banana Vivanno has 270 calories, 5 grams of fat, 44 grams of carbohydrates, 6 of which are fiber, and 21 grams of protein.   The Orange Mango Banana has 250 calories, 2 grams of fat, 6 grams of fiber, and 16 grams of protein.  That’s amazing, when the average protein bar offers nutritionally less.  If you are needing a little caffeine, Starbucks recommends adding a shot of espresso to the Chocolate Banana (which adds no calories) or Green Tea  Macha (which adds 40 calories).  If you are looking to save calories and fat, you can ask the barista to substitute skim milk for the 2% milk Starbucks uses as their standard (calorie savings aren’t available on the web for that).   Now, nutritional content aside, I think both the Vivanno flavors are quite yummy, neither flavor has that chalky taste some protein shakes have, and with 25% of the daily recommended fiber, you are left feeling full.

For me, instead of skipping a meal (which is a naughty thing to do), I can pop into my closest Starbucks and get something with a nice balance of protein, carbs, and fats.   I’m finding it’s the perfect after-workout snack-in-a-cup.

I just tried the chocolate banana after reading this. It was pretty yummy, I must say, and very filling. I wasn’t quite sure about the chocolate-banana combination, but it worked really well. mmmmmmmm.

I know I’ll be passing a Starbucks tomorrow and I’ll be trying one of these. They sound delicious. Thanks.

Without espresso in it, the chocolate banana reminds me of when my mother used to slice bananas into warm chocolate pudding. They’ve blended the flavors really well. (I liked that while the banana was present the taste wasn’t BANANA!!!!! and chocolate.)
