Product Review: Starbucks Perfect Oatmeal
It’s the first of a new year, a time when we all vow to “eat healthier”. But here it is the first “hump day” of 2009 and your busy schedule has left you wondering when it is you have the TIME to eat better. Instead of resorting to a muffin or other such baked goodness (with more hidden fat grams than you want to admit), considering getting the Oatmeal when you get your morning latte. At 140 calories, 2.5 grams of fat, 25 carbs and 5 grams of protein, the whole-grain oatmeal (with oat bran) is a tasty - and quick - way to start your day. Healthy add-ins are available, such as brown sugar (add 50 calories), dried fruit (100 calories), and nuts (100 calories). While these up your calories, the full nutritional breakdown is on the package label to help you track your mix of nutrients.
Personally, I love it and find the “perfect oatmeal” pretty close to perfect. I typically add Splenda and a splash of milk. The vented to-go cup is the perfect size - and for the on-the-go balancing, I have discovered it nests perfectly with the lids on the hot beverages. When I was traveling for work, oatmeal and a protein-latte gave me a great start to each morning without the guilt. According to the Mayo Clinic, Oatmeal is one of the top five foods you can eat to lower your cholesterol.
