What is “Sexy”?
There is the idealized image of sexy. No, not when it comes to women - I’m thinking instead about men. We see a man like Brad Pitt as sexy - he has a fabulous body with chiseled abs and strong arms - not to mention a handsome face and that rugged tough-guy attitude. Who wouldn’t agree with that? But I’ve been thinking a little broader and was trying to define what I found sexy and while a pretty boy is nice to look at, there are other things that say “sexy” to me.
In a planning meeting, we were talking about our “Man of the Moment” feature. We target sexy men with some real substance behind them, but as we began to chat about this feature, some of the names we threw out weren’t the young and hot chiseled ab guys - but some older….some on the heavier side…. Then, my daughter and I went to see the new Indiana Jones movie and I found Harrison Ford at 65 even sexier than I found him twenty years ago.
When it comes to my personal life, I realize I rarely choose the pretty-boy types for companions. I am, of course, attracted to handsome men, but I gravitate towards intelligence over chiseled abs…and am oddly attracted to a broad-shouldered guy with sexy hands and a deep voice. I also find that men over the age of forty have a lot more sex appeal to me than the boy-next-door twenty year old. I guess I’ve learned that with age comes experience….and intelligence far outweighs a pretty face.
Don’t get me wrong, now. I still see Brad Pitt as amazingly handsome. But I am also seeing that a man like Sean Connery or Harrison Ford has aged well like a fine wine….and I’d take a glass of that wine any day. What about you? Does a hot body make someone dreamable simply because of the body - or the face? Or do you find the quirky bookish types sexier ? When does a man become too old to be a fantay man?

Yeah, I’ve found that what I think is sexy NOW, isn’t what I thought was sexy 5, 10 years ago. I find intelligence sexy…and a good brain inside of a pretty head is even bonus, but if I can’t get that brain stimulation, ie: INTELLECTUAL INTERCOURSE, then forget it. Luckily, my husband is both smart and hot…best of both worlds

Sexy is…
Comfortable in his own skin.
Engaged in the world around him.
Un-self-concious.
Quick to smile and laugh.
Gentle and strong.
Attentive and intelligent.
Hmm….why am I not getting a composite of physical requirements for sexy?
I suppose then that sexy - really, truly sexy - is something far more cohesive rather than bits and pieces broken up into little parts.
