Skinny Bitch - yeah, that’s right, I said it … Skinny!

skinny-bitch-yeah-thats-right-i-said-it-skinny

Normally, I would be setting yet another new year resolution to lose weight right about now. This year, I’ve decided to instead select 3 words to inspire me throughout the year after reading Deb’s article, “Three Little Words“. That being said, getting healthy is definitely on my list for this year, and I’m sure many of you will be doing the same. With that in mind, I have to recommend a book I just finished, Skinny Bitch by Kim Barnouin and Rory Freedman. Skinny Bitch is an in-your-face, get-off-your-arse guide to getting healthy and losing weight. This is the kick-in-the-butt book that we all need at times to get started on a healthier lifestyle. The language is definitely of the adult-nature, but that is what makes this no holds barred book so powerful - attitude. And, it’s that attitude that will invigorate you to make the changes in your life to get healthier.

Now, a lot of what Barnoun and Freedman suggest may seem rather severe at first - no meat, no dairy, no caffeine, but remember that this is merely a guide. Yes, of course it would be great to go 100% vegan and healthy, but these things take time so don’t feel you have to go the whole way, straight away. Making just small changes can make a huge difference, and after reading what these ladies have to say, I have no doubt you will be making some changes (big and small). Chapter 4, The Dead, Rotting, Decomposing Flesh Diet is an especially tough read (and if you love animals, you may be quite upset and revolted by this chapter), but don’t skim it The reason we make changes, especially when it comes to being healthy, is because we educate ourselves on what we are eating and where that food is coming from. Although some topics are hard to swallow, it’s important to be fully aware of where your food is coming from so you can make the educated, and more often than not, the better decision.

Regardless of whether you decide to remove meat from your diet or not, give up cigarettes and caffeine or just eat more veggies and work out a little more, this is a book that is packed with great information and an attitude that will light a fire under you and encourage you to become a skinny bitch*!

*and by bitch I obviously mean a very strong, beautiful and intelligent woman.
