I think books that are fun, and light are great for beach reads. Nothing too serious. But this book would def be a great summer read! :)

I'm just leaving for vacation and I wish I had this book to bring with me because it's exactly the kind of read I enjoy on a beach or in a shade somewhere. After some thinking, I decided not to take a book with me for a change, so I will have all the time to explore the lovely town in the south of France. :)

I would love to win this for my best friend who's fiercely independent. I'm sure she'll enjoy this book as she is a huge fan of Carrie Bradshaw.

I saw Dame Tanni at a Soroptimist conference in Newcastle a couple of years ago and she truly is inspiring. She has amazing energy and listening to her you could tell that she supported and encouraged others. She let nothing limit her achievements.

Thank you for this!! Celebrating the birth of our country, of being proud to be Canadian and all that means has been a celebration I have enjoyed since childhood. We certainly don't "do it up" as Americans do for July 4th, but we honour ourselves and this great country in our quiet way, but are no less filled with pride and thanks.

Let's see, I have three daughters, ages 22, 20, and 18. Among them, we have (or have had): a tattoo, cotton-candy pink hair, jet black hair, black hair with bright red streaks, a pierced nose, multiple piercings of the ears-- up and down the edge and through the center and traggus (sp?)..get where I'm goin' here?
AND among them, we have: all three graduated high school as Distinguished (the above-and-beyond diploma)- and all three were Honor graduates; a free ride to a state university, multiple scholarships (because of going to state contests for writing), one is in grad school & headed for a PhD in Women's Studies; one is in college & headed for a Masters in Library Science; and one is college-bound to become a Nurse-Practitioner, which requires a Masters degree.
What we HAVEN'T HAD: I'm not a grandmother yet, and I'm 42; no drugs, very, very little under-age drinking..I know there's a lot worse stuff besides that, but those were my three main concerns that they avoid when they were in high school.
I agree with you, Debra: pick your battles and let your kids know that artistic expression is acceptable. Above all, my kids know that there is nothing they can do to make me stop loving them. NOTHING.
Awesome post, thanks!

It's kind of funny that I happened upon this blog since I have a dear friend who is ending a relationship, not by her choice, and moving to her own apartment.

I know how great the independence is... I'm glad I got my year or so of it to really get the right man for me.

I've been living alone for almost 5 years now after a really long and tumultuous relationship. I love it most of the time, but there are certain times when I just wish there were someone to come home to at night. This book sounds like it may help me during the lonely moments.

I think it is hard to stay upbeat all of the time when you're single. I hate certain "holidays": New Years (that kiss at midnight is depressing), Valentine's Day (why don't people just share Valentine's Day cards like we did when were kids...if you care, say so), even the bigger get-togethers. "Oh, you can bring a "friend."" Hmmm....

I'm in my 40s, single, never been married. My life couldn't be fuller and more gratifying. But there are those moments....

Hello! I sometimes regret that at a younger age, I never lived on my own. I went from living at home because I attended a local university; then got married. I would love to read this book. I then would pass it along to a friend of mine. Please enter me in your drawing. Thanks, Cindi
