Skin Care Secret

skin-care-secret

When I was still getting zits in my mid-20’s I decided that something drastic had to be done.  I mean, wasn’t I supposed to be finished with that phase of my life?  I was no longer a teenager.  I was eating healthy foods.  I was even drinking enough water.  Why did I keep getting pimples […]

Guest Post - Christine Kane - How to Survive a Bad Day

guest-post-christine-kane-how-to-survive-a-bad-day

Let’s face it. No matter how much progress we make, we’re still going to have “bad days.”
You know the ones. When the old critical voices are milling about drinking martinis and eating crab puffs in your head. You try to send them all away with your favorite powerful affirmation, but only a few of them […]

Diabetes, know the signs

As it is the time of year when many people will indulge in rich food and a few extra sweet things, it is a good time to make ourselves aware of the signs of diabetes. For most, the worst thing that can happen is that we might need to shed a few pounds after the holidays are over, but for some…

Crust-less Broccoli/Cheese Quiche

crust-less-broccolicheese-quiche

The experts say that breakfast is the most important meal of the day.  Even though I office from home, I find that my mornings tend to get away from me and I survive on coffee….and them am famished (and make poor choices) for lunch.    I’ve found a way to really combat that problem by spending […]

The Power of Laughter

the-power-of-laughter

My husband and I have jobs we love but that can be stressful at times. After a particularly busy and pressure-filled day at our respective offices, we went to see The Hangover, a movie that had been recommended by all of our friends who’d seen it.
As is our usual M.O., when we are catching up, […]

You Only Have One Face

you-only-have-one-face

As the summer holidays draw to a close and school begins, don’t forget an important part of your beauty routine:  protecting your face daily with sunscreen.
“But wait,” you say, “I don’t use sunscreen every day.  I just use sunscreen when I plan an outdoor activity or am going to the beach.”
I beg to differ.   Your […]

Recipease - A New Way of Cooking

Jamie Oliver (our Man of the Moment in December 2008) has just launched his latest project Recipease here in the UK. Recipease is a new food and kitchen shop where you can learn to cook and make great food. You can book a lesson to come into the shop and make a meal in around 10 minutes (they have all the ingredients ready and waiting), buy freshly made food, or attend one of the longer classes to learn more about cooking. The goal is to open various food and kitchen emporiums around the UK, with the first opening on February 26th in Clapham Junction.

Your Turn: Gag Me with a Spoon - Surviving Acid Reflux

your-turn-gag-me-with-a-spoon-surviving-acid-reflux

I don’t love being pregnant. My girlfriend swore I would. At 13 weeks, I’ve survived the constant naseau, the psycho need to eat every two hours, and the hormonal sedation that would cause me to pass out at my desk, but the acid reflux has actually gotten worse.
I’m about ready to fall into a depression […]

Your Turn: Health vs. Beauty

your-turn-health-vs-beauty

Each of us finds our own personal rhythm as we go about our days, and once upon a time, going to the gym was part of mine.   Life changed.  First there was a divorce.  Then there was a shift in my businesses, which lead me to living in hotels rather than in my own snug […]

This Diet Sucks (and other ramblings about how I can’t lose this stupid weight)

this-diet-sucks-and-other-ramblings-about-how-i-cant-lose-this-stupid-weight

So everything I wrote in my previous diet post…forget it. Because it’s meaningless if I don’t really believe it. I’m trying, I really am. And I soooo want to lose 20 lbs. But for some reason, something just isn’t clicking in my brain. I haven’t lost any weight since my […]

Yet Another Diet Pt. 2: The ANTI-DIET

yet-another-diet-pt-2-the-anti-diet

So, it’s been about 3 weeks into this “diet” and I’m down…drumroll… 8 lbs! It’s a modest amount, I think, but I figure if I lose weight at a decent pace, then I’m more likely to keep it off.
The first week was the easiest. And that’s when I lost the most weight. […]

Walking to Rivendell

walking-to-rivendell

Despite being overweight, I often forget to eat because I get caught up in a problem, realize I’m hungry, form the intent to feed myself, and then get distracted by something shiny, and forget. This, combined with the fact that writing is a sedentary career choice (not that doing mortgage loans was much better), does […]

Yet Another Diet

I’m going on, yet another, diet. Will it be the last one? I don’t know, but I hope so. I am 35 years old and started my first diet and life-long obsession/struggle with my weight at age 12. I wanted to lose 5 pounds back then, and I’m STILL trying to […]
