Fave Flicks

fave-flicks

So, I’m going to sound like a bit of a copycat here considering Penny and I seem to share tastes in favourite movies. What a tough choice. Only 5 favourite movies? I’ve actually struggled over this for the past week and my list keeps on changing every time I think about it. So, as of this moment, these are my favourite movies (in no particular order)…

1. The Princess Bride - The story is a classic and I love everything about the movie. I’m a sucker for anything promoting the idea of true love. I think it also holds a place in my heart because of the good memories I have watching it with my husband. Sometimes a film is a favourite because of the memories around it, rather than the film itself. In this case though, it’s both a wonderful film and brings back great memories. Win-win.

2. Moulin Rouge - Although I bawl everytime I see this, it’s one of my all time faves. Although the story line is bitter-sweet it is masterfully woven with various songs of all types of genres. I will never hear “Shes [I’m] a Virgin” and not think of Jim Broadbent wrapped in a shawl singing it. The cinematography and aesthetics are stunning. Baz Luhrmann has such a great visual style. His Romeo + Juliet is another fantastic example.

3. Stardust - A recent, and instant, fave. This had it all for me: love, fantasy, action, comedy and of course a great story. I think mostly, I fell in love with the story. I seem to be a real romantic and I love a movie that can really take me into another world.

4. Lord of the Rings Trilogy - I think this one is self-explanatory. How do you not love such a classic and Peter Jackson and his team did an exceptional job bringing Tolkien’s books to life on the screen. An amazing feat if you ask me.  It’s a masterpiece.

5.  Pixar films - Yes, I’m cheating. I love the work of Pixar and am always amazed at what they come out with. Some of my top faves are The Incredibles, Finding Nemo, Monsters, Inc. and Ratatouille.

Needless to say there are a swarm of other faves waiting in the wings, and I know as soon as I post this I am going to change my mind and want to mention a few other flicks, so with that in mind, I’m going to just mention the really close contenders: Amelie, BBC’s Pride and Prejudice, Underworld, Sin City, The Little Mermaid, Lost in Translation, Shrek, While You Were Sleeping, Love Actually and Bridget Jones.

If you haven’t seen any of these and find yourself with the opportunity to, please do. They are well worth the time.
